Everyone’s Festival – A Vibrant Tomorrow.
Alison Frise, MAGMA Managing Director & MOSAÏQ Festival Chair of Entertainment
After almost a year of planning (yes we start planning within a month of the festival ending!), we are so excited to present MOSAÏQ Festival 2024 in a matter of days!
Each year, we aim to be innovative while keeping the traditional tried and true “what works” of MOSAÏQ Festival which is now in its 19th year. As the Greater Moncton area has grown and includes more and more diversity and multiculturalism, we are excited to make room for new partners, new performances and new food.
The biggest change this year is that we have opted to move the festival to a Saturday and Sunday event wherein prior years it has been held on Friday and Saturday. We recognize that MOSAÏQ Festival is really a draw for families to come out together, participate in our Family Zone activities, watch some live music and dance, as well as enjoy food from all over the world.
Our kickoff this year is the Parade of Nations on Saturday morning in Downtown Moncton. We are so grateful for the participation of our local ethnocultural associations and community partners, as they show up in full force to proudly represent their cultural pride through traditional dress, music and dance- all along Moncton Main Street to Riverfront park.
Our concert event will be Saturday evening and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome Sophie Lukacs, Wolf Castle and the Olympic Symphonium as well as our headliners Halifax and South Africa’s Neon Dreams. Without purposefully knowing it at the time, a theme has emerged in this year’s lineup, which apart from being diverse musically- showcases a positivity, ingenuity and drive that I hope inspires and brings joy to our MOSAÏQ audience. (please visit our playlist on Spotify to find your MOSAÏQ Festival 2024 groove)
“The combination of community, diversity and fun along the Riverfront is truly something special and we can’t wait to welcome you to MOSAÏQ Festival 2024!
Also, new to the Saturday lineup, we are really excited to collaborate with United Colours of Fashion -UCOF as they present their Fall Festival 2024 in Moncton at the festival. The theme is “Threads of Unity ; Weaving stories Through Stitches, which will showcase the rich tapestry of cultures, stories and fashion – that make up our community!
Our MAGMA tent this year will host a Human Library in collaboration with the Moncton Public Library. The unique activity offers the opportunity for anyone to “read” a human book who would share their success story. This gives everyone a chance to get to know one another and to understand the background stories of how immigrants have arrived and settled in New Brunswick.
Additionally, the tent will be welcoming Blacklantic’s Clinton and Hilary on site doing a live podcast and covering MOSAÏQ Festival 2024 performances and events. Please follow them on Instagram @blacklantic as they work to amplify Back East Coast voices through podcasts, playlists and other mixed media innovation!
Throughout the weekend there will be MOSAÏQ ethnocultural village, which is both educational an entrepreneurial, with items for sale from all over the world. And of course, food vendors! Anthony Bourdain has been quoted “I think food, culture, people and landscape are all absolutely inseparable” and I think we agree. A really simple way to experience another culture, is to try their food.
I could write about MOSAÏQ Festival at length, but I absolutely encourage you to come out and experience it for yourself and invite your friends and neighbors. As always, performances and Family Fun Zone activities are free and open to everyone!
The combination of community, diversity and fun along the Riverfront is truly something special and we can’t wait to welcome you to MOSAÏQ Festival 2024!
