CPPANB and MAGMA to Represent New Brunswick at the United Nations International Migration Review Forum

Moncton, NB – April 2026 – The New Brunswick Provincial Council of People of African Descent (CPPAANB), in collaboration with MAGMA, will participate in the Second International Migration Review Forum, taking place from May 5 to 8, 2026, at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York City.

This participation reflects a strong commitment to advancing the priorities of the Second International Decade for People of African Descent (2025–2034), and to ensuring that the voices and lived experiences of Black communities in New Brunswick are represented in global policy discussions.

Delegates include Founder Phylomene Zangio and Alison Frise, Managing Director of MAGMA.

Key priorities include protecting migrant workers’ rights, promoting safe and regular migration pathways, recognizing skills and credentials, advancing economic inclusion, and combating exploitation and human trafficking.

While the New Brunswick Multicultural Council (NBMC) is not directly participating, its mission aligns closely with these priorities, particularly in advancing safe migration pathways and supporting the full participation of newcomers in building inclusive communities.

“This forum is a vital platform to strengthen international collaboration and ensure migration policies uphold dignity, equity, and human rights for all, including people of African descent. Our presence reflects a commitment to both global dialogue and meaningful local impact.”

— Phylomene Zangio, Founder, CPPAANB

“At MAGMA-AMGM, we witness daily the courage, resilience, and potential of immigrants who choose to build their lives in New Brunswick. Participating in this United Nations forum allows us to bring these realities to the international stage and advocate for more humane, inclusive, and effective migration systems. We firmly believe that when integration pathways are supported equitably, all of society benefits.”

— Alison Frise, Managing Director, MAGMA

This engagement highlights New Brunswick’s contribution to global conversations on migration, equity, and inclusion, while reinforcing local efforts to address systemic barriers and expand equitable opportunities.

“New Brunswick’s newcomers and communities of African descent are integral to building a more equitable province. We are proud to stand in solidarity with CPPAANB and MAGMA as they bring New Brunswick voices to the global stage at the United Nations. The issues at the heart of this forum (safe migration, dignity, and economic inclusion) are the same issues we work to address every day here at home.”

– Ben McNamara, Executive Director, NBMC
