We are thrilled to welcome you to our page and share with you a little bit about our Language School world. With a team from over 12 countries from around the world and over 15 spoken languages, we mean it when we say that languages are our passion and setting newcomers up for success in their new home and community in our region is our commitment.
Learning a new language is more than just learning to speak, listen, read and write in a new language; it is a magical key to unlocking new cultures, exploring new ways of communicating, and building social and professional bonds with new communities that one calls home. Learning a new language takes courage, is exciting and empowering and it creates endless opportunities, yet it does not come without challenges. At the MAGMA Language School, we understand that equipping newcomers with the right tools and cultural knowledge to connect and communicate efficiently with their new communities is key to helping them succeed on social, professional and economic levels – and we always take pride in being part of the newcomers settlement and integration journey.

The past three months have been full of exciting moments! Here’s a quick look at what’s been happening from June to September:
World Cup Soccer – Team Canada!
On June 18, Teacher Hamed and his CLB 4 students attended a public viewing of the Canada vs. Qatar soccer match near the Avenir Centre.
The students explored the event area along Main Street before the game, they enjoyed interactive activities, games, and photos with world cup displays. This experience gave them an excellent opportunity to engage in conversations with event staff, providing a valuable opportunity to practice English in a real-world setting.
The group joined soccer fans from across the community to watch the match on a large outdoor screen. The lively atmosphere, enthusiastic singing of the national anthem, and celebrations following each goal made for an exciting and memorable experience. Canada’s 6–0 victory added to the excitement, creating a fun and meaningful outing for everyone involved.
Film Screening – Moncton Public Library
On June 22nd, Teachers Shurooq, Svitlana and Andres and their students had the opportunity to attend a film screening organized by the City of Moncton at the Moncton Public Library featuring the documentary: Arab Women Say What?
The documentary highlights the voices and lived experiences of Arab women, exploring themes such as identity, culture, migration, and resilience. Following the screening, students had the opportunity to reflect on the film and participate in meaningful discussions, sharing their perspectives and personal connections to the topics presented.
This activity was a wonderful experience for the students, providing a valuable cultural and educational opportunity that encouraged critical thinking, empathy, and respectful dialogue while fostering a deeper understanding of diverse experiences and perspectives.
Visit to Riverfront Park
On June 26th, Teacher Polina and her CLB 4 morning class enjoyed an educational outing to Riverfront Park. The group took a walk along the Chocolate River, explored the local community, and visited the Museum Art Café where they discovered artwork created by local artists.
As part of the experience, students participated in a fun Canadian trivia game allowing them to learn more about Canadian culture and history while practicing their English skills in a relaxed and interactive environment.
The outing provided students with a wonderful opportunity to connect with the community, build confidence using English outside the classroom, and create meaningful memories together.

Congratulations Childcare Assistant Program – Cohort 9
MAGMA Language School was proud to celebrate the graduation of Childcare Assistant Program Cohort 9 (an IRCC-funded Employment-Related Language Training program).
Over the course of the 12-week program, participants successfully completed sector-specific language learning and gained valuable hands-on experience through placements at MAGMA’s childcare centres: CNC and WOW.
The graduation ceremony was a celebration of the graduates’ dedication, hard work, and commitment to building rewarding careers in early childhood education. Their enthusiasm, perseverance, and passion for learning have enriched our classroom learning and conversations, and we are excited to see the positive impact they will have in supporting children, families and our community.

Picnic at the Riverfront;
Summer is Definitely Here and Our Language Students Are Making The Best of it!
On July 7th, our English Conversation Circles students enjoyed a wonderful picnic at the Riverfront with teacher Nojood. The group made the most of the beautiful weather while participating in a variety of engaging English-language activities designed to build their communication skills. Activities such as Listen, Draw, and Ask Follow-up Questions and Mad Libs encouraged students to practice their English in a fun, interactive way.
The activities kept everyone engaged and encouraged active participation throughout the day – while having fun and lots of laughter. Students showed great enthusiasm, energy, and teamwork, making the picnic both an enjoyable and memorable learning experience for everyone involved.
A Day of Community Exploration
Last week, MAGMA Start-Up Teacher Patricia and her Beginner Level morning class enjoyed an educational tour of community landmarks in the neighbourhood, including Moncton City Hall and the Moncton Public Library. Throughout the outing, students practiced recognizing street names, giving directions, and becoming more familiar with important places in their community.
The class also had the opportunity to enjoy the unique experience of visiting the Atlantic Nationals Car Show, which took place in downtown Moncton. Students learned about this popular annual event and its significance as one of the city’s major summer attractions.
To wrap up the day, the group visited Riverfront Park, where they practiced their English-speaking skills through conversations and board games while enjoying the refreshing riverside breeze.
It was a fun and engaging outing that combined language learning with community exploration.
Literacy Summit:
A Beautiful Collaboration of Sharing Knowledge and Experiences
On Friday, July 24, Language teams from both MAGMA and YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick Newcomer Connections hosted and participated in their first Literacy Summit; a collaboration by both teams.
Hosted at MAGMA, Language team members from both organizations came together to share ideas, resources, and best practices aimed at enhancing learning experiences for literacy students. The summit provided a valuable opportunity for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and strengthening connections between settlement agencies that support language learning.
This event marks the beginning of what we hope will be many opportunities to continue information and experience sharing, learning, and working together to better serve our newcomer students and the community.
MAGMA Students Visit to YMCA Childcare Centre
On July 23, the MAGMA Childcare Assistant Program Language Training Class had the opportunity to visit the YMCA Childcare Centre in Moncton where they met with Stephanie Breau, the Inclusion Coordinator.
The group was warmly welcomed and given an overview of the childcare programs and services offered at the centre. During the visit, students gained valuable insight into the role of early childhood educators and the importance of fostering safe, inclusive, and nurturing environments where children can learn, grow, and thrive. They also explored potential volunteer opportunities available through the YMCA and learned how they can become more involved in supporting the community.
The visit was both informative and engaging, providing students with a deeper understanding of the childcare profession while helping them connect classroom learning with real-world career pathways and community services.

Learning Beyond the Classroom: MAGMA ECC Students Shine at Centennial Park!
Last week, MAGMA English Conversation Circle students had an amazing opportunity to practice their English outside the classroom during a fun and interactive outing at Centennial Park.
Students participated in a variety of board games and an exciting scavenger hunt (which was everyone’s favourite activity) that encouraged them to communicate, collaborate, and build confidence using English in a real-world setting. The outdoor activities created a relaxed and enjoyable learning environment where students practiced speaking, listening, and teamwork skills while having fun. Everyone enjoyed working as a team and meeting new classmates
It was a memorable day and the outing was a success with students gaining more confidence in using English while creating meaningful connections with their classmates.
Film Screening – Moncton Public Library
Last week, some of our MAGMA Language Training after afternoon students, along with teachers Shurooq, Svitlana, and Andres, attended a special screening of the documentary 500 Days in the Wild at the Moncton Public Library. The event, organized by the City of Moncton, gave attendees the opportunity to experience an inspiring Canadian documentary.
The independent film follows filmmaker Dianne Whelan on her remarkable six-year journey to complete all 16,000 miles of the world’s longest trail network, traveling across the Trans Canada Trail by both land and water. Stretching from the Atlantic to the Pacific Coast and reaching the Arctic Ocean, the trail showcases Canada’s breathtaking landscapes and diverse wildlife while highlighting the challenges and rewards of such an extraordinary adventure.
Through stunning cinematography, personal reflections, and powerful storytelling, the documentary explores themes of perseverance, resilience, and our deep connection to nature.
The experience inspired students to reflect on the importance of protecting the natural environment while encouraging them to pursue their own goals with determination and courage.
Language School Updates – September 2026
