Stronger Together – Domestic Violence Awareness & Public Safety Session

As part of MAGMA’s ongoing Stronger Together community initiative, our most recent workshop on February 13th brought newcomers together for an informative and empowering session focused on domestic violence awareness, public safety, and available community supports. The event was delivered in collaboration with the RCMP and Victim Services, whose expertise and guidance helped participants better understand how to recognize unsafe situations and how to seek help when needed.

The session provided a safe and welcoming space for open dialogue. Participants engaged in meaningful discussions, asked questions, and shared experiences, creating an environment where learning and support could flourish. Attendees gained valuable insights into the role of law enforcement, how the reporting process works, and what protections and resources are available to individuals facing domestic violence or sexual assault.

To support emotional well‑being, the workshop also included a Mindfulness Meditation component—offered by Meghan—which encouraged participants to explore grounding techniques, stress management strategies, and tools for building personal resilience. A shared lunch followed, giving families and individuals an opportunity to connect, reflect, and continue conversations in a relaxed setting.

Overall, the session was highly interactive and deeply informative. Newcomer participants left with a stronger understanding of their rights, the services available to them, and practical steps they can take to seek support during times of crisis. Many expressed appreciation for the clarity, compassion, and openness shown by the RCMP and Victim Services throughout the workshop.

MAGMA extends its heartfelt thanks to all partners, presenters, and participants for contributing to a meaningful and impactful day. Together, we continue working toward a safer, more informed, and more resilient community.
