MAGMA Language Back to school
Hello – Bonjour, from the MAGMA Language School team!
We are thrilled to welcome you to our page and share with you a little bit about our Language School world. With a team from over 12 countries from around the world and over 15 spoken languages, we mean it when we say that languages are our passion and setting newcomers up for success in their new home and community in our region is our commitment.
Learning a new language is more than just learning to speak, listen, read and write in a new language; it is a magical key to unlocking new cultures, exploring new ways of communicating, and building social and professional bonds with new communities that one calls home. Learning a new language takes courage, is exciting and empowering and it creates endless opportunities, yet it does not come without challenges. At the MAGMA Language School, we understand that equipping newcomers with the right tools and cultural knowledge to connect and communicate efficiently with their new communities is key to helping them succeed on social, professional and economic levels – and we always take pride in being part of the newcomers settlement and integration journey.
We can’t wait to open our 2025-2026 Back to School doors and to welcome new and returning students in our MAGMA Language School classrooms!
“Do you know what a foreign accent is?
It’s a sign of bravery.” ,
Amy Chua

Activities:
MOSAIQ Street Market – July 17th
Teacher Polina CLB 4 class students were in for a treat last July as they had a wonderful time attending the MOSAÏQ Street Market on Downing Street in Downtown Moncton. The lively and welcoming atmosphere made it a memorable experience for everyone.
Students were excited to explore local vendors and cultural displays. We especially enjoyed seeing New Brunswick-themed colouring books, toys made with a 3D printer, and beautiful handmade candles. One of the highlights was playing the “Spin the Wheel” game, where everyone won small prizes!
Each student went home with a gift bag filled with fun items like water bottles, pins, and other surprises. It was not only a fun and engaging afternoon but also a meaningful way to connect our classroom learning about Canadian culture with real-life community experiences.
Thank you teacher Polina!
Movie Outings at the Moncton Public Library
We understand that there are different ways to learning about a language and its culture, and cinema and documentary films play an important role in teaching real-world language, cultures and social and economic contexts. Recently, teacher Kate invited her CLB5/6 students to join her on a couple of movie outings to the Moncton Public Library where students watched a couple of documentaries:
- John Ware Reclaimed
A documentary re-examining the story of John Ware; an African-American man who moved to Alberta in the late 1800s.
- Stolen Time
A documentary about a lawyer who is trying to sue major retirement homes for elder abuse. The film addresses issues related to mistreatment that senior population faces in retirement homes and how corporations profiting from it.
Outings:
A wonderful August Outing for CLB 5 and CLB 5/6 classes!
What a wonderful day the students had during their outing to Centennial Park with teacher Svitlana! The weather was wonderful, and the students had a chance to relax, enjoy nature, and practice their English in a fun and informal setting.
Students played some games, including a lively Dad Joke Face-Off (with lots of laughs!) and of course: chess! In the morning, a few people brought a basketball and badminton rackets, which added to the fun. Everyone had some delicious food to share, and many students took the opportunity to exchange recipes and talk about the dishes they had prepared. There was also a barbecue, and the students took turns helping with the preparation, which gave everyone a chance to collaborate and chat…all in English!
The outing gave everyone a chance to use their language skills in real-life situations, build connections with classmates, and boost their confidence speaking English in a public setting. It was a memorable day filled with fun, learning, and collaboration.
Thank you Teacher Svitlana and CLB5 & CLB5/6 Students!
Childcare Assistant Program First Aid Activity
MAGMA’s Childcare Assistant class is grateful for the incredible support from The Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick, which gave a free First Aid course for our students! Led by our dedicated instructor Shurooq Aldoori, the class gained vital skills to be job-ready in the childcare field. Thank you for empowering our future caregivers.
Graduations
FISRP graduation
We were proud of the Francophone International Student Retention Program 25th Cohort who celebrated their graduation at a beautiful event organized by CAFi at the Dieppe Arts and Culture Centre. The event celebrated the students’ dedication and hard work over the course of the program and marked the beginning of an exciting chapter in their lives. Through this program, which is delivered in collaboration with CAFi, we watched the students join the program since day one and continuously grow strong communication and professional skills feeling empowered with a confidence that equipped them to collectively organize an outstanding professional networking event that was hosted at MAGMA and individually deliver exceptional end of term presentations.

The graduation ceremony, which took place on August 15th, marked an important milestone in their settlement and integration journey. With over 15 students from Cohort 5 celebrating the beginning of a new chapter in their new life in our region surrounded by friends and family, we felt proud of everyone and honoured to be part of their journey.
