Black History Month — Human Library Event

Celebrating Stories, Dialogue, and Community

MAGMA was proud to host a meaningful Human Library event in recognition of Black History Month, creating a welcoming space for community members to engage in open dialogue, listen to lived experiences, and reflect on the richness and resilience of Black history and culture.

This unique event invited participants to “borrow” Human Books—individuals who generously shared their personal stories, insights, and journeys. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our Human Books, Dr. Mary L. McCarthy and Rose Marie Stewart (Ms. Rose), whose voices brought depth, wisdom, and inspiration to the conversations throughout the session. Their contributions fostered greater understanding, empathy, and connection among all who attended.

MAGMA also thanks our dedicated moderator, Queen Okwum, for guiding the discussions with care and sensitivity, and Phylomene Zangio for her valued support in helping bring this initiative to life. We are equally grateful to the City of Moncton for sponsoring this important community event and for their continued commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and learning within our region.

Moments like these remind us of the power of storytelling in breaking down barriers, building bridges, and celebrating the many voices that shape our shared community. We thank every participant whose curiosity, openness, and engagement helped make this Human Library a truly impactful experience.
