Peace | Paix – Stories of Peace
& Art at MAGMA

February 4, 2026

MAGMA had the honour of hosting Peace | Paix – Stories of Peace & Art, a thoughtful and inspiring gathering that brought our community together to reflect on peace, dialogue, and the role of art in shaping our shared understanding. The event created a space for meaningful connection, inviting participants to pause, listen, and engage with stories rooted in compassion and hope.

A highlight of the afternoon was the unveiling of Wounded Peace, a striking and emotionally resonant artwork by the late Claude Roussel, a pioneer of modern Acadian art and an influential figure in our region’s cultural landscape. This piece serves not only as an artistic legacy but also as a reminder of the ongoing work required to cultivate peace in our communities.

We were privileged to welcome several distinguished guests whose presence added depth to this moment, including City of Moncton Acting Mayor Paulette Thériault, Anne‑Marie Collette (Peace Matters Moncton), Mateo Gomez‑Angulo (ACIC), Suzanne Roussel, and Joanne Duguay. Their participation underscored the shared commitment of local leaders, partners, and community members to advancing dialogue around peace.

The event also featured three powerful messages of peace, offered by:

  • Dr. Francis Weil
  • Ali El‑Tarnichi
  • Patti Haines

Each speaker shared a unique perspective, inviting attendees to reflect on unity, resilience, and the importance of nurturing peaceful communities in everyday life.

MAGMA extends heartfelt thanks to all who joined us in honouring this significant artistic milestone and reaffirming our collective dedication to peacebuilding. Together, we continue to create spaces where stories, voices, and artistic expression foster understanding and connection.
